World War II Year 5/6
“World War 2 is the new topic being undertaken by Years 5 and 6 at Bovington Academy, this half term. As always, we like to ensure the topic and the work that will go with it, are as memorable and enjoyable as possible – for all concerned. This half term, we decided to start our topic off with a WOW day, to help inspire the children’s writing, reading, maths and topic work going forward. They had a great day, dressing up in period costumes; deciphering codes in mathematics, just like Alan Turing; watching a moving audio book of The Lion and the Unicorn, whilst sitting in their makeshift air raid shelters, eating digestive biscuits! In the afternoon there were a variety of activities such as making gas mask boxes, poppies, paper spitfires and singing songs from the era. Vera Lynn’s We’ll Meet Again being one of our choices. The staff and pupils thoroughly enjoyed the day.”
