Class Allocation 2021/22

Dear Parents and Carers,

Class Allocation for September 2021

I am now able to share with you the class allocation for September 2021.  You will see from the list that we are welcoming some new teachers, but we are also sadly saying ‘goodbye and good luck’ to some of our team.

Firstly, we are saying ‘farewell’ to Sarah Brunskill who has taught Tyneham Class this year. Mrs Brunskill’s husband is in the army and he has been posted, so the family will be relocating over the summer. We thank Sarah for all of her hard work and commitment to the school; her positivity, energy and ability to always look on the bright side of life will be missed but we wish her every happiness as she starts an exciting adventure in Northern Ireland. Good luck Mrs Brunskill!

Deborah Batten who currently teaches our wonderful Weymouth Class in Year 3, will also be leaving the Bovington Team at the end of this academic year. Mrs Batten joined us just as we went into lockdown in January and she has worked really hard to get to know your children under difficult circumstances. Her creativity and love of everything outdoors is clear to see in the classroom and we wish her every success with her new ventures.

Alyssa Williamson is also married to a member of the MOD and her husband has been posted to Yorkshire. Mrs Williamson has been an instrumental part of the team and has worked hard with all children across Year 5 and 6, but will be especially missed by Dorchester Class. Her hard work this year has meant that many children have made huge progress; both academically and emotionally. You have been amazing, Mrs Williamson – all the best in Catterick.

Rob van der Eyken will also be leaving us to take up a position overseas – Mr V has impacted on progress this year, not just in Year 5 and 6, but across the whole school as assessment lead. His sense of fun will be missed by pupils and staff alike and he will definitely be remembered fondly by Wareham Class. We hope you take lots of fabulous Bovington memories with you as you travel to the Middle East, Mr V – what will we do without our Google Ninja?!

Lastly, Kirsty Thomson who works with the children as a midday supervisor and also as a cleaner is leaving at the end of this term. Kirsty’s husband is being posted and the family will be relocating due to this. Kirsty will have worked with many, many of your children and her kind, caring manner will be missed at lunchtimes. She can always be seen with a child, laughing and supporting them and making sure everybody feels safe and happy. Thank you Mrs Thomson for everything you do!

As you can see, we are losing some important members of our team this year.  Whilst no one wants to say goodbye, it is really important that we wish them well and hope that Bovington will always have a special place in their hearts.  I would like to wish every single one of the staff leaving, the very best of luck – your presence around the school will be very much missed. Please come back and see us soon.

As we have a few people leaving the school, it also means we have a few joining too.

Chris Judd joins the Upper Key Stage 2 team. Mr Judd spent some time in school back in May and showed that his teaching skills and enthusiasm for Bovington will definitely be an asset to the school. He enjoys sport, especially football and cricket, and has personally played at a high level in both of these fields. We can’t wait to have Mr Judd’s positivity and energy in the team from September.

Amy Frost joins the Lower Key Stage 2 team. Miss Frost knows Bovington well as she was placed at the school as a student teacher back in 2019. She returns as an experienced teacher and has worked in various schools since qualifying. Her core values and excellent teaching will fit in well at Bovington and she comes with exemplary references. We look forward to meeting Miss Frost again very soon.

I am sure you would like to join me in wishing all of our new recruits the very best of luck as they begin their Bovington careers.

Also in September, Liesel Muraro will be taking on the role as the Phase Leader of the whole of Key Stage 2 and we wish her every success in her new role. She already effectively leads Year 3 & 4, but we are adding Year 5 & 6 to her list of responsibilities. I have no doubt that Mrs Muraro will continue to lead and support the staff to ensure your children make excellent progress again next year.

Jane Buck, who is currently our Forest Schools Lead and a qualified teacher, will be going back into class full time in September. She will still lead on Forest Schools and continue to run an afternoon session as this is a really important provision and the children absolutely love their time learning outdoors. Mrs Buck brings a wealth of experience to the classroom and she knows all children across the school really well.

Sarah Elms will be returning, but will not be class based – she will take on a cover role across the school for 2 days so that we can offer wider provision, build capacity for improvement and ensure the quality of teaching and learning in the classes is not impacted.

Attached, you will find your child’s class allocation for September 2021.  Children have had the opportunity to meet with their new teacher today at the transition afternoon; any transition arrangements have been organised with Covid transmission in mind and where bubbles will be mixing, social distancing will be in place at all times. The transition will take place outside to further minimise contamination and all other control measures remain in place.

All teachers spend a very long time considering class allocation each year, and so unfortunately, there is not the opportunity for parents to suggest or request changes to the allocation.

Yours sincerely,

Sara White
